Hald International Center is a vocational school (fagskole) in Cross-Cultural Understanding and International Work (tverrkulturell forståelse og internasjonalt arbeid). The motto is " a year beyond this world". One of the things that makes it unique is that it is part of Fredskorpset (FK) Norway (Norwegian Peace Corps) which prides itself on only doing mutual exchanges. This means that Hald also has students from China, Nepal, Madagascar, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Brazil, and Colombia. These are the countries the Norwegian students will learn in, and the students from these countries will have their practicum in various cities in Norway.
Hald is one school, but it has three exchange programs run by different organizations. "Connect", which I am a part of, is the program of the Norwegian Mission Society (NMS). "Focus" is the program of Laget, which is the Norwegian organization belonging to the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. "Act Now" is the program of Strømme Foundation.
The program consists of 6 weeks with relevant studies and preparation, 6 months in another culture learning and having a cross-cultural practicum there, and then 8 weeks of more classes and debrief after we return. Finally, we do some volunteer and information work for the organizations.
